Coordinate A Book Drive

More and more Millennials are reading online as well as Generation Z. However, there are many other generations of us who still love tangible books. Your books may not all be in the best condition, but you may have a few that you can spare for a local reader. Consider teaming up with your city’s library to donate gently used books. You may not be able to coordinate a neighborhood-wide book drive, but you may have enough books to make a meaningful donation. Instead of planning an event, you may consider making a monetary donation to your local school or library to purchase books. Your donations will make a great effort to help build your local school or public library.

Consider working with well-known children’s book companies to donate books to your school. Many of them have programs where they can donate books. You can do a Google search for book companies that service your area.

Some families cannot afford books which can deter children from reading. You can help families in your area by bridging the gap between quality books and the families that need them.

TIPS

  • If you want to work with an organization rather than go it alone to do your book drive, remember that your event must be approved by National Day of Love® by filling out a form here before you can begin advertising or coordinating your activity. If you are planning on donating to a single organization on your own (without coordinating with others), your activity most likely is not an event. If you are unsure, please contact us.
  • If your books are not able to be donated to an organization because of their condition, don’t be discouraged. Places vary on the quality of the books they are willing to receive. Call around and see what organization is the best fit for you to work with.
  • You may decide to collect your books for a reader that you know. This can be fun because you can talk with them after you donate the books to see what they thought of your favorite books. Consider leaving a note inside a book or two to make a sweet treat for your reader.
