Support Local Writers and Readers

There are many emerging writers among us and plenty of eager readers. Why not join the two together and help fix two needs at once? Writers are constantly looking for new avenues to share their books. Parents are looking for affordable books for their emerging readers. Why not help your local writers by having an event for them to showcase their books and give some of the books away for free to childhood readers?

Disclaimer: Please note that all events held in honor of National Day of Love® must be approved by our organization in writing. If you are planning to register to host an event, visit our FAQ’s page to find out more information. You can register to host an event or partner with us here.

If you decide to apply to host an event, you can use word of mouth or local referrals to find legitimate writers who can donate some of their books to charity. You can suggest that the writer offer a certain number of free books or a discount code for the first 30 people who show up, for example. Consider offering other prizes or giveaways to incentivize your crowd to show-up and help the writer get more exposure. Consider looking for writers at your church, job, or other meet-up group that would love to showcase their book and help charity. Facebook is also another place to find writers.

Any time you are having people volunteer or work with children, you must take appropriate legal precautions. Many times that will include a mandatory background check for those volunteering. Contact your local authorities and consult city/state guidelines on what you will need to do to ensure the safety of your juvenile and adult guests at the writer’s showcase.

An event like this can help writers spread the word about the great work they are doing and help young readers receive free or discounted books. There’s definitely love in helping others. Remember to check out the tips and information below.

TIPS

  • Choose where you will host your event. After you have received written approval from our organization to host your event, you can reserve the space. Make sure you will have adequate space considering any local social distance guidelines. Consider hosting the event virtually and having people come pick up the free books from a central location during normal business hours.
  • Don’t forget that you will need to get your event approved by us in writing before hosting your event or advertising. Make sure to check out the FAQ’s page and apply to register your event.
